You can use any yarn + suitably sized hook to make these lil guys, I personally prefer the fluffy chunky look of chenille yarn so I'll be using that. Additionally, you can embroider the mouth before or after you close off the main body.
I tend to do it BEFORE closing off, as you can just thread it in the front were you want the mouth to be, then tie it at the back afterwards, which hides the tail and means it's less likely to come undone.

Fasten off and switch to white yarn

14 - 5 Dc Bobble st, 5sc, 5 Dc Bobble, 17sc |
Add safety eyes between round 9 and 10, about 6 sts apart. Embroider mouth across 2 stitches. Stuff.
Dec around until closed.
